Peace to the job seekers
As 2022 comes to a close, I’m sitting reflecting on the year that’s been. I feel compelled to share something my dear friend Stephen Thomas shared with me amidst my job search a few months ago when I felt like giving up.
I’m sure there are many of you that are entering the New Year with uncertainty. Perhaps you’ve been made redundant, your job is at risk, or you’re unemployed, or in a job that makes you unhappy.
These words are for you…
Dear <whoever is reading this right now>
I’m writing to you to let you know that we are delighted to offer you a position as an ‘Awesome person living on planet Earth’. Throughout a rigorous interview process and getting to know you over many years, we’ve been really impressed by your values and your ability to stick up for others. The whole management team was really struck by the way that you seem to effortlessly defuse difficult situations and champion those around you into doing their best.
We have seen how you have personally handled adversity with great fortitude. People with your incredible soft skills and high levels of emotional intelligence don’t always fit with rigorous rounds of draining corporate interviews that tend to favor arrogance and over-confidence over genuine engagement.
As we approach a difficult time for many people, we are so glad to have you on board our hardworking team of ‘Awesome people living on planet Earth’ — it’s really important that we have your energy and skills as we continue in our mission to remind people that love, relationships, nature, and authentic spiritual experience are the only things that people on their death beds wishing they spent more time focussing on.
We also understand that you may have some reservations about taking up this position and that part of you is saying ‘But I gotta do this…’ or ‘I need to earn that…’ and that like many of us, deep down there may be part of you that’s scared thinking you could somehow ‘lose everything’ or ‘be a failure’.
We are glad to remind you that one of the benefits of being an ‘Awesome person living on planet Earth’ is that you are connected to a rich network of support, from family to friends, to colleagues and random people you meet in coffee shops. Being part of this network means that you’ll never go hungry. It means that you can never lose everything because you already have it all. It means that you can never be a failure because all you have to do to succeed is be you.
We really hope you’ll accept this position and start right away as we are really keen to have your energy. There are many people around you who are inspired by your spirit and we desperately need you to continue helping those you come across in life.
We will of course sort out some way of getting regular income to you in the near future but we really wanted to get this offer letter to you as soon as possible as we know there will be others trying to snap you up. We really hope you don’t lower your sights and accept offers from any mediocre rivals. We think you’ll make a great ‘Awesome person on planet Earth’ and you’ll be a huge success.
If you accept, your first task will be to throw a stone in the sea and thank whatever God you believe in that today was a day where you didn’t have to update JIRA or fill out a timesheet.
With best wishes
The Recruitment Team at Awesome People on Planet Earth
